Chapter 20 – Proposing a Solution
The purpose of “Proposing a Solution” is to enact a change. Whether you want to change a business practice or change a philosophy, you need to express the problem, honestly consider all reasonable alternatives, and formulate a practical solution.
Three sample essays are provided. The first is a call to action to prepare for Agroterror. The author begins by creating a planned introduction of hoof and mouth disease into a small, rural town in the USA. He points out how easily to could be accomplished. He then uses expert testimony to point out how effective this type of terrorist activity can be. He believes the terrorist is drawn to method since the diseases are easy to obtain, safe to humans, easy to conceal, and less likely to bring severe punishments if caught.
Other possible agroterrorist attacks include the introduction the mad cow disease and/or the West Nile virus.
The author proposes a multifaceted solution. It includes education of farmers, limiting access to facilities and locking facilities where animals are housed. The essay concludes stressing the seriousness of the problem and our need to prepare before it’s too late.
